OPA
The Oregon
Psychiatric Association is the voice of psychiatry for your
patients and our profession. Membership is open to all psychiatrists
in good standing with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.
OPA brings
psychiatric practice, education, advocacy and research together
with a diverse membership representing psychiatrists at all
levels of practice, from members-in-training through senior-level
psychiatrists.
As a part
of the American Psychiatric Association, OPA members extend
their involvement to national issues important to your patients
and your practice. The OPA and the APA provide a wealth of
services and represent your interests on a local and national
level. For example
- Members
of the OPA Legislative Committee and others have testified
in Salem before the legislature on issues ranging from mental
health parity to juvenile treatment services to psychologist
prescribing privileges.
- APA
has provided advocacy training to OPA members on how to
develop effective grassroots lobbying campaigns.
- OPA
produces two stellar educational activities each year-a
fall meeting in Ashland and a winter meeting in Portland.
The quality of these programs is consistently high and offers
a great way to obtain needed CME while interacting with
your psychiatric colleagues.
- Psychiatric
input on key issues is assured by the activities of OPA
committees such as Public Information and Education, Public
Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry.
- On
a more personal level, OPA's Membership Assistance Committee
works with members who may be facing personal or professional
challenges. In addition committee leaders meet regularly
with the chair and executive director of the Board of Medical
Examiners to discuss issues related to psychiatrists.
